The abandoned power plant of the Stalin Textile Combine.
The “Stalin” textile factory in Tirana, Albania was built in 1949-1951 as a Soviet gift to Enver Hoxha. Inaugurated November 8, 1951. Largest industry during the communist era, employed up to 8,000 workers (mostly women). Produced textiles for Albania and export. The area included housing, schools and power plants with chimneys/cooling towers. Closed after 1990, now abandoned industrial area in Kombinat. It’s a great example of Stalinist industrial architecture in Albania.
